Fruitas kiosks to sell baked goods


Food and beverage kiosk operator Fruitas Holdings Inc. said on Monday that its community stores will soon sell pan de sal and other baked goods, as sales of these products increased during the lockdown.

In its disclosure, the company said it will open several stand-alone Babot’s Panaderya, with initial deployment plans of 4 branches in Metro Manila and one in a provincial area.

Fruitas said it leverages the expertise and capacity of Negril Trading Inc., which is home to its De Original Jamaican Pattie brand. As a result, Fruitas is initially entering the bakery business with minimal capital expenditure. In addition, it builds on its track record of providing fresh products and alternatives to juices, soy products, ice cream and milk, he said.

“Pan de sal is a staple in the daily diet of Filipinos. Our entry into the baking business is a natural step in realizing our vision of ensuring that every Filipino household consumes at least one Fruitas product every day. At the same time, freshly baked bread is a perfect addition to our community stores, ”said Lester Yu, President and CEO of the company.

As the company enters the bakery business, Yu said it would have the benefit of being a company that offers flexible and improved distribution to consumers. Fruitas community stores currently offer curbside ordering and pickup as well as home and office delivery through its subsidiary CocoDelivery.

Fruitas bread products will be available to consumers through its community stores, CocoDelivery, and soon via Babot’s Panaderya. Fruitas is also studying the sale of its own bread products in some of its kiosks and to selected institutional clients.

The total bread market in the Philippines is estimated at 200 billion pesos per year. Bread sales rose about 30% in the second quarter of 2020, at the height of the lockdown.

In recent months, Fruitas has expanded its product line and also used partners to distribute some of its products. She decided to go into the bakery herself to meet her customers’ demand for fresh bread.
