HOUGHTON – Located on Lakeshore Drive in Houghton is a hidden gem among bakery lovers.
Roy’s Pasties and Bakery moved to its current location in 2013, a move that has seen a steady stream of customers come through its doors.
“We sell 60,000 pâtés a year,” explains Trisia Narhi, manager of Roy’s Pasties and Bakery. “Daily production varies depending on the month of the year. For us we have a constant flow of local supporters who are with us all year round. In summer, we increase our turnover to more than double in a few months because of tourism.
It might have the word pasty in its name, but Roy’s offers so much more than the staple of the UP kitchen. They also offer a variety of breads and pastries.
“Nine varieties of pies, 26 kinds of different bakeries, 19 kinds of bread, 18 sandwiches, three salads, 10 kinds of coffee,” Narhi said. “People come to visit and pick up goodies, lunch, pastries, dinner, you name it.”
Roy’s even has three locally roasted coffees that are specially made for them by Keweenaw Coffee Works. It’s just part of their working relationship with other local businesses and the community.
“What really brightens the day is meeting new customers who come here and have their first pie here and it’s just great,” said Roy Narhi, owner of Roy’s Pasties and Bakery. “They have the best pie, one of the best pies you can find here at UP and they come here for their first pie. It is always a pleasure to meet new clients.
What if you still needed a reason to stop by …
“Come in and give us a try, we are a wonderful store,” Narhi said.
