When he opened The Bakery in Niagara Falls, it was a nightclub and Kevin Young thought he might be in business for five or 10 years.
Who knew The Bakery would still be a Niagara Street hot spot 50 years later?
Young and his wife, Valerie, and their son, David, throw a giant party to celebrate five decades of restaurant and bar activity. Nicknamed The Bakery because it was built from an old Polish bakery, the restaurant has been located at 3004 Niagara Street for five decades and counts now.
The family is very proud of its success, but surprised that the years go by so quickly.
“This is an accomplishment for my family,” said David, the managing director. “It makes me very proud to be in business in Niagara Falls for over 50 years.”
When asked if she thought her family would still run the bakery 50 years after its beginnings, Valerie replied, “Certainly not. It took a long time, but it went quickly.”
And Kevin is grateful that customers keep coming to the restaurant and bar.
“It is a very good surprise that we are continuing after 50 years and doing well,” he said.
The party kicks off Saturday at 4 p.m. with DJ Terry Blue. At 7 p.m., the group Back in Time will play. There will be drink specials and free snacks. For more information, call the restaurant at 282-9498.
