While Costco’s baking department is loaded with sugar and carbs, that doesn’t mean you can’t actually enjoy the fall-themed foods the warehouse has rolled out for the season. If you want to be even more careful about how much you consume, you can even reduce the standard portion sizes even further. (Lots of Costco baked goods actually have smaller portions than you might think – the serving size of a muffin is half, not all!)
“For pies, rather than cutting a pie into 6 pieces, try cutting it into eight or 10,” says Trista Best, MPH, RD, LD, of Balance One Nutrition. “This allows you to cut down on size and calories while still enjoying your favorite pie.”
Rachel Fine, RDN, argues that these delicious, fall-themed foods continue to be enjoyed, especially because they only show up at certain times of the year and are linked to happy reunions with the friends and family.
“Putting external restrictions on these more forgiving choices can lead to an overall binge and restrict the cycle,” she says while advising people to eat the treats they want to eat, just in moderation. At the end of the day, let “dessert be dessert” and have fun responsibly, she says.
That being said, even though we call them the worst items you can buy in the Costco bakery this fall, it’s just based on the nutrition label. Each one is a delicious addition to your fall gatherings, and there is nothing wrong with having a slice of pumpkin pie with a healthy meal!

Costco Bakery’s Pumpkin Streusel Muffins are one of the most delicious options you can buy in the warehouse in the fall. However, according to My Fitness Pal, they contain a lot – and we mean a lot – of carbohydrates. The serving size is only half a muffin, so slicing the treat in half before digging is the best way to keep tabs on how much you’re consuming.

Costco’s Coffee Cake Muffins are loaded with saturated fat and carbohydrates, not to mention calories. As you would expect with something of the coffee cake variety, there’s also quite a bit of sugar, especially considering the streusel filling. So while it’s a delicious fall treat, it’s definitely best to eat it in moderation, according to dietitians.

Costco’s apple crumb muffins, while delicious, are quite filling. The serving size is actually half the muffin, and even at that, it has 320 calories and 24 grams of sugar. Try pairing half of it with a fresh apple and cinnamon to add fiber and help keep you full longer.
